The flexural toughness of glass fibre reinforced cement composites, manufactured by premix, was investigated both in the short term and after accelerated ageing in 50°C water for 84 days. Effects of pozzolanas, such as diatomite, as well combinations of diatomite with metakaolin and silica fume, on the energy absorption and the flexural strength of composites were tested for two types of cement. The results show a significant increase in flexural toughness and ultimate strain of composites with an increase of diatomite content. A decrease of toughness due to ageing was controlled by addition of diatomite, although these effects were also significantly influenced by number of glass filaments in a strand.
