147 strains were isolated ftom 27 soil or water smaples. Flask tests demonstrated that the strain s1001 of Streptomyces griseo fuscus produced the highest alkaline chitinase activity. The optimal conditions producing alkaline chitinase by S. griselfusus S1001 werre as follows: direct1Medium composition (g/L): poweder chitin 10.0, glucose 1. 0, KNO_3 2. 2, MgSO_4 centre dot 7H_2O 0.2, K_2HPO_4 1. 0, Tween60 0. 005, NaCO_3 11. 0(to be sterilized Separately); direct2 Culture conditios: inoculum amount 4.8 X 10~6spores/ml, incoulum ages 9 days, and the organism was cultivated at 31 deg C for 5 days on 150rpm shaker in 250ml flask with 25
