On-Line Measurement of Residual Monomer During Polymerisation of Acrylamide Using Ultrasonics

An ultrasonic technique for the estiamtion of residual acrylamide monomer during the polymerization of aqueous acrylamide solutionhas been invesitgated. This technique is based on the fact that the velocity of ultrasonic wave increases with the increase in elasticity due to polymerization. The percentage of residual acrylamide monomer is estimated using ultraviolet spectrophotometric analysis. The ultrasoniic velocity is correlated with the residual monomer concentration.
