The characteristics of a H_2/O_2 Bunsen-type flame that is diluted with different gases are investigated using a time-dependent, axisymmetric numerical model with variable transport properties and a detailed chemical-kinetics mechanism. The instantaneous temperature fields and the dynamic behavior of the flames are studied for different dilution levels. The calculations show that dilution with nitrogen or argon causes the flame to burn intensely along the sides, while dilution with helium causes the tip of the flame to burn intensely. Changes in the loal Lewis numbers with the addition of diluents are found to be responsible for changes in the burning characteristics.
