The emission characteristics of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matters (PM) from a medium-speed marine diesel engine were investigated to estimate exactly air pollution from ships. The influence of the emulsified fuel on the exhaust emissions is described in this paper. In the case of Bunker A, the NOx emission rate decreased monotonously with an increase of water contents in the emulsified fuel and was reduced by about 25% with the emulsified fuel which 50vol.% water was added to. On the other hand, the PM emission rate became minimum at the certain water ratio and was reduced by about 25% with 30vol.% water. In the case of bunker C, the NOx emission rate was reduced a little and the PM emission rate was reduced by about 8% with 10vol.% water.
