Parallelisation as Adaptive and Preventive Maintenance

The presence of parallel systems in commercial systems is a relatively recent phenomenon. A consequence of this is that there is little contextual knowledge of the utility of parallel systems in such organisations. This paper analyses the parallelisation of existing commercial applications as examples of both adaptive and preventive software maintenance, and considers the context knowledge required.
