EYE ROUNDS: SUDDEN BLINDNESS

Blindness in the clear eye can be diagnostically and therapeutically challenging, particularly when the vision loss is acute. Disorders of the retina and optic nerve are the most likely culprits when blindness is accompanied by changes in pupil size and responsiveness. Owing to the limited reparative capabilities of these tissues, diagnosis must be prompt and followed with a decisive therapeutic plan. Unfortunately, prognosis for vision is typically guarded to grim in disorders of the retina and optic nerve.
