PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT IN SINOPEC

The chemical industry is the pillar industry of China's economy and the major driving forces for the rapid development of China's economy in recent decades. At present, China's chemical production volume has become the world's largest. SINOPEC is a huge petrochemical enterprise group, established in July 1998 on the basis of former China Petroleum and Chemical enterprise group. As the China’s largest oil and petrochemical products supplier, the world’s largest oil refining company and the second largest chemical company, SINOPEC attaches great importance and responsibility to work safety. To enhance work safety management and prevent major accidents, SINOPEC supported Research Institute of Safety Engineering (RISE) to be responsible for the HSE-related scientific research and technical service work. As a state owned enterprise with the largest assets size in China, SINOPEC also bears the social responsibility actively, by supporting to establish National Registration Center of Chemical (NRCC) for the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) in 2004 and the State Key Laboratory of Safety and Control for Chemical (SKLSCC) in 2007 to set up the national chemical safety database, develop national safety standards for chemicals and chemical processes.
