Ansaldo Energia has completed the redesign of the turbine that powers the historical model AE94.2 in order to improve efficiency, power output and durability. The design has been carried out by exploiting all the available technology and "know how", but without jeopardizing the Class E characteristics and without losing the complete retrofit ability on the running fleet. In this paper the main features of the new design, the expected benefits and the results of the factory tests are described.
