Charging into a Shared Future: Electrifying Transportation Networking Companies (TNCs)-Presented at EVS 31 EVTeC 2018, Kobe, Japan, October 1 - 3, 2018

With the rise in popularity of ride sharing services, cities have seen an increase in vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and have also experienced a drastic change in how people get around. This paper explores the Uber Electric initiative in Portland, Oregon - a response to a rapidly evolving transportation system and a solution working to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation networking company (TNC) driyers. It will also argue that TNC rides in electric vehicles (EVs) have been, and are, a serendipitous opportunity for riders to learn about EVs and to ask an EV owner about their experience with their electric car.
