Li-ion batteries (LIB) are quickly capturing the lion's share of the electrochemical energy storage market. However, a technology differentiation is underway to cater for the different needs of each electric vehicle (EV) category. IDTechEx has carried out an analysis based on market trends and technology readiness to predict future battery choices in terms of cathode, anode, and electrolyte chemistries in 45 different EV markets, including trucks, forklifts, drones, industrial EVs, boats, and aircraft. The analysis can be used to assess raw materials forecasts as well as production capacity planning for battery manufacturing.
