The study was conducted on students of the Biology Education Masters program, Postgraduate Program, who contracted Advanced Genetics courses in odd semester 201-2019. This study aims to improve critical thinking skills and efforts to minimize genetic misconceptions in students through the application of mind map media assisted direct learning models. The method of this research is quantitative descriptive research by applying the Direct Learning model assisted by mind mapping media during Genetic lectures. The research data in the form of critical thinking skills were measured by Ennis methode and analyzed using a normalized Gain Test. Genetic misconception data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results of data analysis show that the application of mind map media assisted direct learning models can improve students' critical thinking skills by 59.85%.The increase in critical thinking skills is in the medium category. The concept of genetics studied is, Definition of Genetics and its Scope, Genetic Material, and Reproduction of Genetic Material. The findings of this study are expected to provide information to lecturers and students of Biology Education Masters in an effort to minimize misconceptions in genetic material and improve critical thinking skills in learning Biology in Higher Education.
