Can you imagine designing a bridge to be functional and durable for the next 200 years? What challenges would you need to overcome to make such a bridge an engineering reality? Today, bridges with intended service lives of 100 years or more are being designed and constructed; anticipating the desire for a 200-year life may not be too far-fetched as the Evolving Metropolis looks to empathize sustainable applications of limited resources. To answer those questions and more, a series of presentations by experts and practitioners in combination with session participant activities focused on the theme, The 200 Year Bridge, will occur during the Congress. You are invited to participate in this special session. At the conclusion of this two-day session, a compendium of the papers and work generated will be published.
