The introduction of nanomaterials in medical technologies requires a more thorough study of their toxicity, as data are accumulating on the presence of toxic properties in carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers. Attention should also be paid to the possibility of linking the toxicity of carbon nanomaterials with an admixture of metals used in the synthesis of carbon nanofibers (CNF) as catalysts and included in the structure of nanomaterials. The CNF was prepared from methane, ethylene, and C3-C4 hydrocarbon gases by chemical deposition from the gas phase on Ni-Cu/Al2 O3, and 90Ni-10Cu catalysts. The gamma-aluminum oxide-polydimethylsiloxanecarbon nanofiber (Al2 O3/PDMS/CNF) samples was prepared in aqueous phase. Using low-temperature sorption on nitrogen (BET method) studied porous structure and specific surface of the CNF. The MTT test, nitrogen oxide production, and apoptosis rate were used to estimate compatibility of Al2 O3/PDMS/CNF with mesenchymal stem cells. It was shown that type of catalyst, raw material, and condition of temperature mode, and time exposure influenced on the characteristics of obtained CNF. Samples of Al2 O3/PDMS/CNF have not affected human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs) proliferation and nitrogen oxide production. Whereas some Al2 O3/PDMS/CNF samples significantly increased hBM-MSCs apoptosis. Thus, we have no obtained significant toxicity of the Al2 O3/PDMS/CNF samples on hBM-MSCs.
