1.Four source characterization techniques have been developed to account for emission sources that act to modify the local dispersion environment and plume rise 2.HIA urban characterization using the AERMOD urban option has demonstrated improved model performance, and has been used in recent applications with EPA approval 3.Localized heat releases that can counteract downwash can be addressed by the LIFTOFF approach, which has improved model performance in initial testing than modeling with default AERMOD options 4.AERLIFT accounts for plume merging of linearly-configured stacks based on wind direction and EPA review found the procedure to be acceptable in modeling 5 closely-spaced stacks at one facility 5.AERMOIST, which addresses additional plume rise due to moisture, has been evaluated with 2 modeling databases and demonstrated improved model performance 6.Further development is expected for each of these techniques given the new avenue of EPA review with AERMOD alpha and beta model development options.
