India being one of the most dynamic economic powers in the world seeks an evergrowing energy demand to sustain its developing economy. To stay abreast with the flexible global energy system comprising a mix of conventional and non-conventional energy sources, it needs to make sure that the challenges of energy poverty and energy security are met by sustainable energy technologies. In 2018, India's share in world's share of total primary energy supply (TPES) was 5.8% with a growth rate of 7.9% w.r.t. previous year. Out of this share, coal accounted for 55.9%. This indicates that coal has been a dominating source of energy supply when it comes to meeting the demands in developing countries like India.
