This paper presents Seawater Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) in Libya. The study is divided into two parts, the first part discusses the location, design, and calculations. The second part is devoted to the environment and economic feasibility studies to evaluate and analyze the potential of a proposed project to aid decision making. The proposed 600 MW (PHES) project would be sited between Athrun and kersah region, 28 km west of Derna city, and will have a capacity of 4800 MWh, and stores energy from renewables, or excess electricity from continuous sources (gas and steam turbine) to be saved for periods of higher demand and The ability to start generating without an external power source and restart Libya’s power generation after a power failure (Black start capability).
