Clouds are complex systems, and interaction among a wide range of scales makes the cloud parameterization problem "deadlocked". The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has identified clouds as one of the most urgent and difficult problems needing attention, as the absence of a sufficiently successful model to capture the actual dynamics of the cloud leads to significant biases (depending on the model chosen) in climate predictions. For the Indian monsoons, on which about a half of the country's agriculture is dependent, a significantly better parameterization of clouds could help in improving rainfall predictions.
