Being a non-contact and low-instructive technology, RFID has gained great popularity in IoT applications. For fast recognition and long lifetime of devices, the energy-aware and time-efficient anti-collision protocol is of vital significance in RFID environment of dense tag population. In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-tree anti-collision protocol, mainly concentrating on reducing the recognition time and energy consumption. The proposed protocol utilizes the number of collided tags to select the search mode. And by designing a new bit-detecting mechanism based on the bit-locking and backtracking strategies and applying it into different search modes, the proposed protocol can efficiently reduce the transmitted bits and identification time. The simulation results prove that the proposed protocol outperforms the common existed algorithms in the aspect of time efficiency and energy consumption.
