o-Carborane (Fig.1) is an icosahedral cluster composedof ten boron and two carbon atoms.One representativeproperty of o-carborane derivatives is the angle-dependentvariable luminescent property (Fig.2).When the C-C bondin o-carborane is parallel to the π-plane,emission fromlocally-excited (LE) state is observed.On the other hand,charge transfer (CT) occurs in the perpendiculardistribution.Although further applications can be expectedby controlling emission properties,it is still challenging toobtain pure CT emission due to free rotation of thecarborane moiety.
