Pulsed laser ablation in liquid has been recognized as an attractive method for thepreparation of metal nanoparticles as it provides pure and stable products free from theexternal reducing agent.It also means that,there is no limitation of the type of the solvent,which sometimes is restricted by the solubility of the reducing agents.[1] Especially,size-selective preparation of very small 1-9 nm gold nanoparticles is quite attractive toextend their applicability in the practical use.So far,size-selective preparation of goldnanoparticles in alcoholic medium with an average particle size ranging from 6 to 9 nmusing liquid-phase laser ablation already reported.[2] Here we report the preparation of goldnanoparticles stabilized by PVP by laser ablation in various organic solvents and ionicliquids and the successful size-selective preparation of them.
