Streptococcus suis (Ssuis) is one or the most important and costly bacterial pathogens of pigs causing systemic and respiratory disease. Ssuis is also a zoonotic agent. Serotyping and genotyping are useful tools to differentiate isolates of this highly diverse species. Thus, the objective of this study is to characterize Ssuis isolates from healthy and diseased pigs using genotypic and phenotypic methods.
