A huge amount of waste is generated around the world every day. Special attention is paid to issues related to waste disposal. The situation is different in different parts of the world, but it cannot be said that, at least in one country, the system works perfectly. The article discusses the technological process of working with waste. The state of the waste management system in modern Russia is described. An analysis of data on the amount of waste generated in the city of St. Petersburg was carried out, on the basis of which a forecast of the dynamics of waste growth from 2020 to 2030 was made. A classification of the existing measuring control systems for the waste management system has been developed. The existing measuring systems are described in detail, allowing to control the process of working with waste. The advantages and disadvantages of these systems are assessed. Systemic problems and directions for their solution are formulated.
