Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is becoming more and more attractive in industry for the production of functional parts, especially in sectors where customization, innovative materials and complex geometries represent the major added value. Nevertheless, stability and repeatability of LPBF processes represents one of the major barrier to their industrial take off because of the stringent quality requirements. For these reasons, current research trends aim to identify innovative solutions for in-situ monitoring and inspection to quickly detect the onset of defects during the process in a zero-defect oriented framework.
