The growing demand for electrical energy in the domestic, industrial and commercial sectors can only be met with a properly planned and effective radial distribution system. Distributed Generation (DG) improves energy security, increases power quality and reliability. The improper location and size of DG are the major causes for losses in DG integrated radial system. Distribution STATicCOMpensator (D-STATCOM) is a Synchronous Voltage Generator for fast and uninterrupted reactive power supply. D-STATCOM also accounts for a portion of the total losses. This paper aims at optimally allocating D-STATCOM and DG separately in a radial distribution network for enhancing the voltage stability by minimizing the power losses. In this paper, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique is used for the proper location of DG and D-STATCOM. Effectiveness of the DG and D-STATCOM are tested in IEEE 15 bus radial distribution system.
