Porous materials, such as porous carbons, zeolites, and metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), compose an important class of materials that are useful for molecular separation as well as storage and catalysis. The microporosity of such porous materials imparts them with many useful functionalities arising from their ability to capture, sieve, and recognize guest molecules. However, the porous materials are generally hard and fragile solid, which limits their use and potential applications.
