Development of low-toxic cellulose solvents and their medical application as an Asian researcher

Lignocellulosic biomass is expected to be converted to biofuels such as ethanol by three successive processes—dissolution of cellulose, hydrolysis of cellulose, and fermentation of glucose. However, sufficiently efficient production of biofuels has not been achieved because serious toxicity of cellulose solvents prevents successive fermentation in the same reaction pot.
