Synthesis and Photo-luminescent Properties of Iridium Complexes Doped Polymer Dots

Polymer dots (Pdots), made of fluorescent polymers, have received significant attention in bio-imaging fields, because of excellent physical and chemical properties, such as non-toxicity, water solubility and photostability. On the other hand, iridium complexes have been studied intensively in organic light emitting diodes (OLED) applications, owing to their high phosphorescent efficiencies and short life-time. Additionally, iridium complexes are able to display bright emission at room temperature, which is thermally and chemically stable. The most attractive feature of iridium complexes is tunable emission colors from blue to red across visible light region, through the selection of proper organic ligands around iridium atom. By virtue of these outstanding photochemical properties, it is possible to dope Pdots with iridium complexes to design photo-functional materials for potential biological applications.
