A visible light induced three component catalytic system with cobalamin derivative (B12) as catalyst, cyclometalated iridium (III) complex, Irdfppy, as photosensitizer in the presence of sacrificial reagent was developed (Fig 1a).1 This catalytic system showed much higher catalytic efficiency than the previous one using [Ru(bpy)3]Cl2 as photosensitizer in the dechlorination reaction of 1,1-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-2,2,2-tri chloroethane (DDT).
