Although the terminal oxyl (·O~- : Oxyl) bound to a metal ion has been recognized as the intermediate species in the various oxidation reactions, such as hydroxylation of light alkanes, its detection and characterization of that have been elusive. Against the background, we report, for the first time, the stable terminal oxyl bound to Zn~(II) in MFI type-zeolite (MFI) and its marvelous reactivity with CH4 at room-temperature (Fig. 1).1,2
