Organic reactions in water have received a great deal of attention due to the environmental consciousness. Chiral 2,2’-bipyridine derivatives have been demonstrated to be powerful ligands for a number of asymmetric reactions in water. In most cases, however, chiral ligands are difficult to be recovered after reactions, and removal of surfactants and water-soluble impurities from water is economically inefficient.
