Energy Efficiency Actions to Uptake Energy Retrofitting Measures in Buildings

The energy efficiency in the building sector is a key element to achieve the energy goals set by the European Union (20% by 2020 and 27% by 2030). Energy efficiency initiatives are supported by all EU member states and guided through building energy studies and recommendations from Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). The current work describes the actions taken in order to stimulate uptake and investment in the energy retrofitting of buildings. The actions cover all the possible interested parties: home/building owners, market supply actors, policy makers, and local authorities and their access to reliable and quality information related to energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. The development of a web platform-HUB to promote energy renovation techniques is presented. This HUB provides information on the latest energy efficiency guidelines, the energy performance in buildings, the nZEBs, statistics on EPCs, and serves as a market place to connect demand and supply side actors, a meeting place and advice resource as well as a monitor platform for refurbishment activities. In addition, the paper demonstrates a home energy check tool (HEC) which has been developed to support the inexperienced homeowners/ tenants to be familiarized with the application of energy efficient products and systems together with their impact to the energy consumption of the building/ house, and their monetary benefits. The presented actions global intension is to raise public awareness and to enhance energy efficient renovation activities in buildings.
