In this paper, an advanced control technique based on Pulse Width Modulation is proposed for Power Factor Correction in Single Phase AC/DC Interleaved Boost Converter in boundary conduction mode at a variable switching frequency. The basic idea behind interleaving is to parallelize the converter channels with a common input/ output filter and load. The driving signal for N phase interleaved converters has 2WN phase-shift to one another, thus providing shift in individual inductor currents and thereby reducing current ripples. The advantages are low input current ripple, better Total Harmonic Distortion factor, improved Power Factor Operation, faster transient response, reduced electromagnetic emission, high efficiency, low device stress and improved reliability. Mathematical analyses have been carried out along with closed loop simulation and designing of prototype replica.
