The impact of SCAN model on the acquisition of cultural metaphor

The focus of this research was to explore the impact of Six Creative and Assimilated Navigation, SCAN model, covering the six cultural metaphorical factors: TIME, SPACE, BODY, VISION, EMOTION and SOCIALIZATION aspects on the acquisition of cultural metaphor through cultural factors blended in Taiwanese public media based on the perspectives discovered from the participants, selected from registered international college students, 16 from Mongolia, 14 from Vietnam, 18 from Taiwan, 10 from China, and 12 from Malaysia, in Chinese and English language learning classes. The SCAN model was employed as a medium to stimulate the participants to illustrate their perspectives regarding the issues of cultural factors. A qualitative research method with a semi-structured interview model was employed in this research. The Constant Comparative Method was also employed for the qualitative data analysis. The findings were expected not only to be as mediators in cross-cultural processing but also to provide language educators with significant clues in dealing with cross-cultural communication.
