The research of language function and application via SCAN Model

The focus of this research was to explore the language function and application via SCAN Model, Six Creative, and Assimilated Navigation, SCAN model, covering the six cultural metaphorical factors: TIME, SPACE, BODY, VISION, EMOTION, and SOCIALIZATION aspects. The SCAN model was employed as a medium to stimulate the participants to illustrate their perspectives regarding the issues of language function and application. A mixed-method, QUAN-QUAL approach with surveys and semi-structured interviews model was employed in this research. The Constant Comparative Method was also employed for the qualitative data analysis. The materials of Taiwanese public media were served to the participants as the instruments. The participants were selected from registered international college students, 16 from Mongolia, 14 from Vietnam, 28 Chinese speakers (18 from Taiwan and 10 from China), and 12 from Malaysia, 70 participants in total, in Chinese and English language learning classes. The findings were expected not only to be as mediators in language and cross-cultural processing but also to provide language educators with significant clues in dealing with language acquisition and cross-cultural issues.
