Influenza A viruses in swine (IAV-S) are a cause of severe respiratory disease and are highly contagious. Endemic influenza in a growing pig population can result in significant production costs related to disease treatment and reduced growth rates. As a result, vaccination is a commonly used control strategy to limit influenza infections on swine farms. However, due to the diversity of IAV-S strains circulating in North America, commercial vaccines are not always effective.1 Autogenous vaccines areutilized when commercial vaccine strains differ significantly from field strains, although the efficacy of these vaccines against IAV-S infection has not been well evaluated.
