This paper presents an adaptive position observer with permanent magnet flux estimation for permanent magnet synchronous motor in a drive system. The new nonlinear adaptive position observer for the permanent magnet synchronous motor is designed relying on stator current, voltage measurements and the speed information. Then, an adaptive flux constant estimator is constructed to generate the flux constant estimate. Convergence of the position observation and parameter estimation is guaranteed under weaker conditions. Simulations are carried out to test the proposed approach and results demonstrate that the proposed method performs effectively to obtain the position and flux constant estimates of the drive system.
