Feline Inflammatory Bowel Disease Vs. Lymphoma: Nebulous Cat Cases

The presenting complaints, clinical signs and diagnostic tests necessary to identify feline inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and alimentary tract small cell lymphoma are exceedingly similar and, usually, identical.1 There are a variety of complex interactions with both diseases including but not limited to: inflammatory mediators, intestinal microbiome, diet, immune system function or dysfunction, genetic predispositions and environmental factors. Differentiating between the two requires a complete workup, diagnostic imaging and ultimately biopsy and histopathology.14
