Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a member of the family of the neurotrophic factors. During the development of the central nervous system, it plays a key role in the survival, differentiation, growth of neurons, and the maintenance of the neurons' normal physical functions. Due to the lack of endogenous BDNF, the exogenous BDNF administration will be the most promising treatment. However, the unique role of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) restrains the further application of BDNF, the liposomes, as the new non-viral vectors can carry drugs into the brain across the BBB. The experiment adopts liposomes-encapsulated BDNF and makes the appropriate modification to observe BDNF entering the brain across the BBB, which provides the experimental basis for the realization of targeted drug in the brain.
