In order to prevent spontaneous coal combustion in goaf of 102 fully mechanized caving island coal face located in 15# coal seam of Tianchi coal mine, field monitoring was carried out on the working face when its actual quantity was 40.0 m~3/s, according to the division standard of spontaneous combustion "three zones" in goaf and the numerical simulation method. The author studied the change law of oxygenation heating-up zone in goaf under different air supply volumes and determined the scope of oxygenation heating-up zone by using computational fluid dynamics software COMSOL. The fitting curve between the air supply volume of the working face and the width of oxygenation heating-up zone was obtained. The results show that air leakage in goaf is the main reason for spontaneous combustion in goaf of "U+I" 102 caving face. The width of oxygenation heating-up zone increases when the air supply volume of the working face increases. Change laws of "three zones" in goaf obtained by field monitoring and numerical simulation match well. When the face air volume is 40.0 m~3/s, it is effective for gas drainage and prevents spontaneous coal combustion. The field practice on the 102 fully mechanized caving island coal face shows that it is feasible to prevent spontaneous combustion of residual coal in goaf of Tianchi coal mine by fire prevention technology of air volume control.
