Desulfurization of organic sulfur in high sulfur coal by oxidation and microwave irradiation

In this paper, Xinyang coal was chosen as experimental coal, and from which inorganic sulfur was removed by using HNO_3. The desulfurization was carried out by oxidizing agent and microwave irradiation. The effect of treatment time of microwave, the ratio of oxidizing agent on the desulfurization of coal were investigated by single factor method, XRD and XPS were used to analyze the change of sulfur components in coal. The results show that inorganic sulfur (FeS,) and part of organic sulfur in coal can be removed by this way. The optimum conditions of desulfurization by oxidizing agent and microwave is treatment time 15 min and V(HAc):V(H_2O_2) =1:1. The analysis of XPS show that the removal of mercaptan and thioether is easy, and then is sulfoxide sulfur, the most difficult for removal is thiophenic sulfur. It can also be found that Inorganic sulfur (FeS,) in coal can promote the removal of organic sulfur component.
