A folded inverted-F ZigBee antenna for smart lighting systems is proposed. The antenna is designed particularly for working in metallic lampshade. The highlight of the design is that the antenna and the lampshade connect together to form a whole radiator. Other characteristics of the antenna are: a small volume makes it easy to not only insert into the lamp, but also to avoid blocking the light; omnidirectional radiation pattern implies it suits for the communication purpose. It operates at 2.44GHz, and its gain is 3.1dB. The volume of the antenna is only 12 x 10 x 1mm~3.
