Based on the numerical simulations on the hydrodynamics and dissolved tracer transport, the water exchange rate of the Haitang Bay, China was simulated, then the water exchange ability of the planning water system project was evaluated. Through analysis, the monthly water exchange rate of the whole water system of Haitang Bay is about 69%, the water exchange ability in different sections shows nonuniform distribution, where Tengqiao is the best, Tielu outport is the second, the internal waterway is the third, and Tielu inner port is the worst. The construction of the second entrance is effective to improve the water exchange rate around the entrance, neighbour area to the internal waterway, and especially Tielu inner port, improved by 10%.
