Experimental and thermodynamic studies of phase equilibria in the Fe-rich portion of theFe-Al binary system have been performed for several decades due to demands for high alloy steels for hightemperature and high corrosion resistance applications. However, phase equilibria among intermetalliccompounds in the Al-rich portion, denoted with ε-Fe5Al8, ζ-FeAl_2, η-Fe_2Al_5 and θ-Fe_4Al_(13), have not beenconfirmed precisely because of a lack of experimental information on their solubility range as well astransformation temperatures and invariant reactions. In the present study, phase equilibria of the Al-rich portionwith a composition range between 48 and 90.3 at.% Al in the Al-Fe binary system were experimentallydetermined.
