Results of the study demonstrated the possibility to increase the drug loading capacity and engineer release kinetics from bioactive glass by surface modifications. A therapeutic nafcillin dose was released during 35 days from mBG and BG. The drug loading and release did not interfere with the deposition of the HA layer necessary for bone bonding. These data indicate that mBG can be used to reconstructed large infected bone defects.
