Assessment on ecological environment vulnerability of large coal mine: an example from Kailuan mining area, China

Kailuan coal mining is one of the main energy bases in China. The environmental problems caused by coal mining become obvious increasingly, and the sustainable development of the area is facing severe challenges. This paper mainly applies the method of principal component analysis and comprehensive index analysis to discuss the relationship between Kailuan coal mining and regional ecological environment, in order to determine the assessment indexes of ecological environment vulnerability for the quantitative calculation. The results of the ecological environment vulnerability index of Kailuan coal mining area is 0.48, suggesting that the ecological environment of Kailuan coal mining area is fragil. Therefore, some corresponding measures for environmental protection are provided for the restoration of the mining area and the surrounding ecological environment.
