Health effects of urban-rural industrial pollution transfer on farmers - a case study of Daqiao Town in Nanhu City Zhejiang Province, China

In the process of industry transformation and upgrading as well as the environmental remediation promoted by city, many industrial enterprises move from city to countryside, so does the industrial pollutant. The paper has selected Jianguo village of Daqiao town in Jiaxing city, Zhejiang province as the survey site and chosen Group A (near the pollution source) and Group B (far from the pollution source) as the survey objects. It is found that the cancer mortality of Group A is about 5.6 times higher than the national cancer mortality in 2009; even the relatively low cancer mortality of Group B is still obviously higher than the national rural cancer mortality level in 2009. In order to react to the transfer of rural and urban industrial pollution, the government should implement environmental damage compensation system to make the negative externalities of the damages caused by environmental pollution to be internalized.
