Discrete element simulation of flow pattern of burden in CDQ shaft

A mathematical model based on the discrete dement method is built to describe coke descending behavior in the l/7-scaled-down experimental setup of an actual 75 t/h cooling shaft.It turns out that cokes flow in the cooling shaft is laminar and no mixing occurs among different coke layers.Due to the resistances of the blast cap and the shaft wall to cokes,the streamline is evolved from "-" to "W"from upper shaft to lower shaft.The change law of time lines is consistent with streamline basically.The velocity distribution of cokes is approximate to "M" shape in contrast to the streamlines and time lines.Compared with potential flow and viscous flow model,the results of DEM are better coincided with the experimental data and can improve the simulation of the behavior of cokes.
