Polydopamine (PDA) has been used and studied for membrane modifications to increase the antifouling property of membrane and reduce the operation cost in membrane related water treatment process. Also used and studied are nanomaterials such as TiO2, ZnO and graphene in modifying membrane for better antifouling properties, mechanical strength or improved conductivity. The blending of these inorganic particles in membranes is met with an aggreagation problem that avoids the well and stable dispersion of nanoparticles, which often requires surface modification to strengthen its interfacial interaction with the polymer matrix.
