POSSIBLE ROLE OF THE NETWORK OF AQUACULTURE CENTRES IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE (NACEE) IN AQUACULTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DEVELOPING ASIAN COUNTRIES

Carp-based polyculture is the dominant form of aquaculture in both Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and South-East Asia. Significant research has been devoted to technology development in this field in CEE countries, which can be of interest to countries dealing with the same type of aquaculture. As a result, several countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) have been involved in development assistance programmes in developing countries, mainly in South-East Asia. These contacts are generally based on existing inter-institutional or intergovernmental bilateral relations, which, while doubtlessly important and useful, often tend to have an ad-hoc character. The development assistance programmes run by different donors have little information on other similar programmes and therefore, cannot build upon the results of each other. This, inevitably, leads to parallelisms and overlaps, as well as repeating the mistakes of each other.
